PDX Post-Security Concessions – Utilities Phase 3 Grease Separation
Location: Portland, OR
The Post Security Concessions—Phase 3 project was implemented to provide utility services and vacuum sanitary sewer plumbing systems to support various concessions and retail development in the PDX terminal building. The overall project work included providing water lines, natural gas lines, electrical conduit, grease accumulators, vacuum centers, grease interceptors, associated plumbing, mechanical systems upgrades, and tenant storage areas. Catworks Construction (CWC) was chosen to complete the civil/earthwork scope located outside the terminals. As part of our scope CWC provided escort driver & vehicles for on- and off-haul materials; demolition & disposal of concrete slabs & CTB base underlayment; potholing; installation of shoring; trench excavation and backfill; grease interceptor piping to 5 ft. from building, installation of cleanouts, 48” manholes, G.I. tanks, subgrade prep for PCC slabs and associated cleanup.
Located in an area highly regulated by security, occupied mainly by airplanes and their support operations, the project required complex logistical coordination. The challenging task of managing the flow of material and equipment on and off site while accommodating the needs of the airlines was handled proficiently by CWC, despite numerous other contractors all vying for space within. Coordination and collaboration was essential to the success of this project.
